have been doing some research on the 1926 silent era animation feature The Adventures of Prince Achmid by Lotte Reiniger. Reiniger was a paper-cut artist who enjoyed Asian Shadow puppetry. She combined this two loves and made pioneered silhouette animation.
The first time I saw excerpts from this film was in Gerald Saul’s Class at the University of Regina. Looking at it again I wondered about how she created such fluid movements on mulitlayered backgrounds. I found interviews with Reiniger film in the explaining her process. She was an amazing artist and creative filmmaker.
